The FBI recently announced they had begun an investigation into New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The investigation will revolve around Cuomo’s involvement in the nursing homes’ COVID death tolls.
The investigation will examine whether the nursing home death tolls were manipulated or covered up by the Cuomo Administration.
According to The Times Union, which first reported it, the investigation focuses primarily on senior members of Cuomo’s coronavirus task force.
The outrage comes after New York Attorney General Letitia James published a report outlining how grossly the COVID deaths were under-counted in nursing home facilities.
State Commissioner Howard Zucker stated there were 15,049 deaths attributed to residents in nursing homes, which is almost 10,000 more than the State Health Department reported on Jan. 27, 2021.
Top Republicans in the state, including New York Representative Elise Stefanik, have called for Governor Cuomo’s investigation and prosecution for “intent to obstruct any federal investigation is a stunning and criminal abuse of power.”
The recent revelations have resulted in the left also turning on Cuomo.
Leftist leaders such as Pelosi and Mayor De Blasio have labeled Cuomo’s actions as “criminal” and “a betrayal of the public’s trust.”
Both Republicans and Democrats in the state legislature have come to a bipartisan consensus for Cuomo.
The legislative officials plan to strip Cuomo of his emergency powers following the nursing home scandal.
However, New York’s State Congress isn’t the only one getting involved.
According to the New York Post, Sen. Republican Ted Cruz and other GOP members of the Senate Judiciary Committee have also called for a congressional probe into the situation.
Since an initial inquiry began months ago, Cuomo’s administration has slow-walked, releasing the data as long as they could.
It looks like Cuomo’s plan to run out the clock has inevitably failed.
Cuomo and his team maintain that they consistently reported the data accurately.
Cuomo said in a public statement, “I want everyone to know; everything was done, … Everything was done by the best minds in the best interest and the last thing we wanted to do- the last thing that I wanted to do was to aggravate a terrible situation.”
While Cuomo may claim this, the investigation is a decent sign that he may be lying.
The fact that there is a bipartisan push to investigate Cuomo may mean that New Yorkers and Americans could get the justice they deserve.
