Through the TPS (Temporary Protected Status) designation, immigrants who are escaping socialism to enter into America.
Illegal immigrants will be allowed to stay in America for 18 months and the time span will end in September 2022.
Biden’s administration said Monday that the temporary legal status will apply to immigrants who crossed into America from Venezuela.
The policy also applies to those who have already crossed America’s border illegally.
This policy could ultimately effect hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants coming from the Socialist country.
The White House excused their policy by citing the “extraordinary and temporary conditions in Venezuela.”
In their statement the White House included the societal repression, hunger crisis, terrible infrastructure and rise in non-government violent militias as all reasons to grant access to America.
“The living conditions in Venezuela reveal a country in turmoil, unable to protect its own citizens,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said.
“It is in times of extraordinary and temporary circumstances like these that the United States steps forward to support eligible Venezuelan nationals already present here, while their home country seeks to right itself out of the current crises,” Mayorkas continued.
Former President Donald Trump instituted serious sanctions against Nicolas Maduro’s socialist regime.
However, Trump did not institute the TPS policy that Biden is implementing.
This past January, Trump deployed the Deferred Enforcement Departure program to help protect native Venezuelans from returning to the socialist country.
The Associated Press reported that Biden’s policy estimated 320,000 immigrants could all apply to live in the United States of America in the 18 month time frame.
The Congressional Budget Office reported in 2019 that the TPS infrastructure could only sustain 200,000 Venezuelans.
Biden’s policy would increase that by almost 120,000 more immigrants.
Under the socialist regime of Maduro, Venezuela has crumbled.
The leadership in Venezuela created widespread food shortages and medicine.
Since then, the United States and many other countries refuses to recognize Maduro as the legitimate leader of Venezuela.
Instead the United States backs Juan Guaido as the leader and rightful President of Venezuela after a swayed election that Venezuela claims led to Maduro’s election.
Due to the fractured Democracy in Venezuela, around a dozen of countries have called Maduro’s election illegitimate.
Applicants to stay in America during the 18 month time span, must prove residency in America as of March 8, 2021 to be eligible for the application process, the Department of Homeland Security said.
The TPS program registration will be available for a 180 day registration time.
During this time applicants will be forced to submit intense background and security checks.
“The plight of the people of Venezuela is a challenge to the conscience of the world and I commend Secretary Mayorkas and President Biden for working to combat the humanitarian disaster in the region,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said.
Schumer has praised Biden for his border policies saying it “demonstrates the commitment our nation has to support the protection of Venezuelans fleeing a corrupt regime.”
Even Marco Rubio came out in support of Biden’s decision saying, “I am glad the Biden Administration shares that commitment, and I support granting TPS status to eligible Venezuelan nationals currently in the U.S.”
“I have long advocated providing much-needed relief to help eligible Venezuelan nationals residing in the U.S. with a work permit and a temporary solution, which is exactly what the Trump Administration did earlier this year,” Rubio argued.
