Not only is this a depressing reality for many, but it is also an interesting case for the legality of religious freedom.

On October 13, Lydia Booth, a third grader at Simpson Central School was told that she could no longer wear her ‘Jesus Loves Me’ mask despite many other students wearing masks that contain phrases like, ‘black lives matter’ and other political messages.

Lydia Booth’s parents responded by saying:

We are proud of our daughter. She wanted to express her faith. We felt like we had to stand up for her when she was told she couldn’t express her faith like she was somehow a second-class citizen simply because she wanted to express a religious message and others a secular message.”

Booth’s parents were told that the ‘Jesus Loves Me’ mask apparently violates “school policy.” Now the school could face legal issues…

While the superintendent claims that the mask violates school policies that ban masks with political, religious, or inappropriate symbols, the fact that other students were allowed to means that they could be in ‘hot water.’

The ADF reports that the school “changed its policy to justify the move and refused to accommodate Lydia.”

ADF legal counsel responded in saying, “We were forced to file a lawsuit in order to just allow this third-grader to just express this positive message to the students around her that Jesus loves me.”

The ADF then filed a MASSIVE federal lawsuit against the Simpson County School District.

ADF legal counsel, Tyson Langhofer, also made these comments to Todd Starnes when speaking about this BARBARIC incident:

“Apparently they believe religious messages in class or in schools are inappropriate, but they allowed other masks with all kinds of other messages on it … If you allow others to express messages on their masks, you have to allow people to express religious messages.”

“This is a great reminder, Tyson, that these attacks on freedom and liberty are happening all over the country, not just in Berkeley or New York City,” Starnes said in response to the lawyer fighting for freedom.

Despite the attack on their rights, the Booth family is holding their ground in the fight for the First Amendment and American liberties that were SUPPOSED to be guaranteed to us…

“They’re doing this for their daughter and for the future generations, because they don’t want their future generations to lose the freedom that we currently have,” Langhofer went on to say.
