The Joe Biden border crisis is literally getting worse by the day.
A new projection from the Center for Immigration Studies reveals that a record 210,000 illegal aliens were apprehended in July, marking the worst month in 21 years.
The CIS report stated:
For the sixth consecutive month since President Joe Biden took office and followed through on campaign promises to dismantle his predecessor’s deterrence-based policies, the number of illegal immigrants encountered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection broke records, reaching 210,000 in July, the Associated Press reported Monday. The outlet cited a court filing by David Shahoulian, assistant secretary for border and immigration policy at the Department of Homeland Security. Based on past trends, the vast majority of those encountered were likely illegal immigrants apprehended by the Border Patrol.
Each day of July, authorities encountered an average of 6,770 people, he said. Families and unaccompanied alien minors drove much of the influx, but so did single adult “runners”, who have strained Border Patrol resources as agents struggle to push them back into Mexico again and again. Over and above the 210,000 aliens CBP encountered, an additional 37,000 illegal immigrants reportedly evaded Border Patrol entirely, likely a significant undercount.
The numbers are downright horrifying.
July’s 200,000-plus encounters exceeded the monthly total of 188,829 immigrants encountered in June, a number that until July was the largest in a single month in 21 years.
That would bring the number of CBP encounters just thus far this fiscal year, which ends September 30, to an overpowering 1.3 million. U.S.-Mexico border apprehensions last reached the million mark in 2006.
A new projection from Princeton Policy Advisors reveals that more than 1.8 million illegal immigrants are expected to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in 2021.
The group said it would mark the “worst ever” on record, which is another stunning reminder of how bad things have gotten under Joe Biden.
The Washington Examiner summarized the main findings:
The group said that would be 250,000 more than the next highest number recorded in 2000.
Princeton Policy Advisors President Steven Kopits, who has long argued for a market-based visa program to control immigration, said that 2021 is likely to be the worst ever year of illegal immigration.
Kopits warned that it could undermine Biden and the Democrats in the elections. “It is premature — but only barely — to peg calendar 2021 as ‘the worst ever’ for the Biden administration. If the administration wants to avoid heading into the 2022 elections with this dubious distinction, it is high time to start working on Plan B,” he said.
Kopits used current and historical data to come up with his forecast. His past forecasts have held up well. He said that in a fiscal year model (October to October), this year’s numbers are likely to be the third-worst, at nearly 1.6 million apprehensions of illegal immigrants.
Earlier this month, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officials announced that a whopping 188,829 illegal aliens crossed into America in June 2021, the most in any month for the past 21 years.
Since Biden took office, there have now been over 1 million crossings this year, according to data from CBP.
