President Joe Biden’s favorability rating has taken a massive hit following the chaotic withdrawal of all U.S. forces and diplomatic personnel from Afghanistan, many of the images of which that have been broadcast on American and foreign media are horrific.
“A Rasmussen Reports poll illustrates the president’s approval index is currently 17 points down from where he started in January – the lowest it’s been since he took office,” Just The News reported Tuesday.
“A total of 46% of Americans approve of Biden’s performance while 53% disapprove – also the highest that number has been,” the outlet continued.
A new report from the group Convention of States Action done in concert with polling firm the Trafalgar Group found that 69.3% of Americans did not approve of the president’s handling of military operations, which is a supermajority of Americans.
Meanwhile, only 23.1% approve and 7.5% of Americans surveyed did not have an opinion.
“Even among Democrats, 48.2% disapprove, compared to just 39.8% who approve of Biden’s Afghan strategy,” the outlet continued.
“Among GOP voters a stunning majority at 88.8% disapprove, while just 7.1% of Biden’s actions. Numbers for political independents tilt closer to GOP figures, with a total of 74.8% disapproving of the handling of military operations, and 19.8% giving a nod of approval,” Just The News added.
Digging further into the Trafalgar/Convention of States Action survey, a strong 59.5% said they “strongly disapprove” and only 9.8% said they simply “disapprove.”
“This is Saigon, and it’s far worse,” said Mark Meckler, President of Convention of States Action.
“Our nation has watched the same group of leaders in Washington D.C., flounder and blunder on foreign policy, on COVID-19, on the border, and on the economy,” he added.
“After spending more than $1 trillion dollars and enduring wounded and dead soldiers, we are confronted with a basecamp for terror, a foreign policy nightmare, and are now less safe here at home,” he said.
In his own statement, former President Donald Trump said that what is happening in Kabul is worse than what happened during the fall of Saigon, South Vietnam in 1975.
“What took place yesterday in Afghanistan made our withdrawal from Vietnam look like child’s play,” Trump said in a statement released through his Save America PAC.
“Perhaps in World history, there has never been a withdrawal operation that has been handled so disastrously,” he continued.
“A President who has been illegitimately elected has brought great shame, in many ways, to our Country!”
Biden has attempted to excuse the manner in which he ordered U.S. personnel out of the country, claiming that the collapse took him, the Pentagon, and the intelligence community by surprise.
“The truth is, this did unfold more quickly than we had anticipated,” he said Monday. “We gave them every chance to determine their own future. We could not provide them with the will to fight for that future.”
Former U.S. Army Gen. David Petraeus, who at one point during the Obama administration when Biden was vice president commanded all forces in Afghanistan, pushed back on that claim.
“Afghan soldiers died in huge numbers over the course of the past two decades,” he told NBC News.
“We were worried that they wouldn’t be able to replace all those they lost. So the idea they would not fight for their country is something that is just not accurate,” he added.
